CRUISE IN COMPLETE COMFORT
Making quite an impression in the Sumatran islands, Jiwa is the kind of which would have been used years ago by merchants trading throughout the archipelago.
THE VESSEL
KLM JIWA – SOUL
A classic 23m traditional wooden Phinisi, Jiwa is the kind of ship that would have been used years ago by merchants who traded throughout the archipelago. Her twin masts, clean lines and rustic charm provide for a unique way of experiencing the Indonesian islands.
“She tends to blend into the environment rather than impose on it.”
Jiwa is a solid boat. Built using the finest ironwood with full length beams and double keel, her builder has ensured that as well as looking great, Jiwa has been engineered to perform well out at sea. Her 6-cylinder diesel engine pushes her along at a respectable 9 knots and if the winds are right, her sails can be set for some classic cruising.
Jiwa is split into 3 levels. The top deck is where the boards are stored, the shaded area is perfect for yoga, lounging on day mattresses and watching the action in the water. It’s also the prime place to hangout under magical sunsets after a long day surfing.
The foredeck has a table and comfortable seating under a large canopy. Towards the stern is the open plan saloon, it’s a huge area with dining table and couches down each side overlooking the ocean. The saloon ensures you can always escape from the sun and that everyone can still find space to spread out in less favourable weather.
Below decks, is the A/C sleeping cabin with beds for 10 guests and two bathrooms. The cabin is very roomy and we have installed a TV for those wishing to watch movies during the day or night.
We have 2 tenders assisting Jiwa. A 4.2m Rigid Inflatable Boat with 40hp engine which provides for fast transfers to and from the surf and also a 5m boat perfect to fishing trips and for scouting out potential “around the corner”.

Nicknamed “The Indo Gerry Lopez” he’s steadily becoming quite the master of the regions left hand tubes. This surf awareness has undoubtedly made him a more competent skipper and you really couldn’t wish for a better captain to help discover everything the islands have to offer.
